easy-on was chosen to protect Birmingham City Council, UK, litter bins from damage & graffiti attack

With a population of over 3,600,000 the City of Birmingham is the UK’s most populous City outside of London. As you can imagine with that many people the job of keeping Birmingham clean and tidy is a massive one. Fortunately most of its dwellers are decent enough folk who paid attention at school and are prepared to do their bit to Keep Birmingham Tidy by using the 4500 litterbins that the Council provide.

Unfortunately litter bins like all street furniture bring with them there own unique set of challenges, not least of which is the seemingly unavoidable attraction that graffiti vandals have towards bins. Tags, fly posters and graffiti decorate most bins in a City but Birmingham’s Street Cleaning Service were determined to ensure this was not going to be the case with their new trash receptacles.

Before the bins were deployed Birmingham City Council officials had the foresight to protect their new batch with easy-on coating from Urban Hygiene. A single coat of easy-on was applied to every bin to ensure their resistance to graffiti, traffic film, UV damage and Fly Posters. This simple idea has guaranteed Birmingham’s litter bins will look like new for years to come and any graffiti or fly poster removal takes place in a fraction of the time it would have needed had the bins not been coated.

Birmingham’s brilliant bin idea has been copied by councils all over the UK and easy-on anti graffiti coating is now available on request from a number of quality bin manufacturers.

UK's telecomms leader BT have their public cabinets protected from graffiti and flyposters thanks to easy-on anti-graffiti coating

Like most places Doncaster's telecommunications cabinets and street furniture have always been a target for vandals. Graffiti and fly posters often adorn these boxes and since there position is always prominent, on the corner of almost every major road junction, this vandalism can really bring an area down. It has even been suggested that over half the graffiti in any borough can be attributed to street furniture and cabinets.

Recognising this problem Doncaster’s Flyposter, Litter And Graffiti (FLAG) manager, Gareth Barwell contacted various cabinet owners and asked their permission to apply an anti graffiti and fly poster coating to facilitate the speedy and complete removal of any subsequent vandalism.

Permission was granted and after reviewing several coatings the cabinet owners and FLAG settled on easy-on from Urban Hygiene. easy-on was chosen for its superior resistance to both flyposters and graffiti as well as its robust 20 year life.

Five years on and Doncaster’s street furniture and telecom’s cabinets still look as good as they did in their first year and have been regularly cleaned by Doncaster’s graffiti team and a number of youth groups in the area.

Doncaster’s cabinet protection was heralded as a complete success and has been repeated by councils the length and breadth of the UK and has even replicated by the people in charge of the Kaloon railway in China.

N.B. Interestingly over the 5-year period easy-on has also helped to solve a number of other issues which often plague street furniture and cabinets. easy-on has shown exceptional resistance to UV degradation which has helped the cabinets to maintain there good looks and has been shown to resist the effects of uric acid (dog urine) which can often rust away the bottoms of the cabinets and make it necessary to completely replace them – a costly operation.

Environmental Coatings Australasia test new easy-on™ coating for the marine industry

ECA are currently testing a new easy-on solution called Marine+ on a motor cruiser at the Docklands in Melbourne.

Breid Composite Creations trials easy-on™ on vandal resistant bathroom products

Breid Composite Creations is an Australian based manufacturing company with a
simple goal; to provide cost affective, vandal resistant bathroom products
to the market place that are unrivalled and desperately long over due.

Breid has recently been completing trials of the easy-on coating on their
SupaTuff range of products, as a means to evaluate its effectiveness in making
their products safer and easier to clean.

"One of the key reasons for completing this trial was the properties of the easy-on
coating. It boasts an exceptional hardness rating, hospital grade hygiene
properties and although we use an Australian standards approved fire
retardant resin, the easy-on clear coating provided an added barrier against
vandals with a 0 fire rating." stated James Reid, Breid Composite Creations.
He continued, "the most impressive outcome of the trials was the finish it provided.
It really brought out the colour and gloss of our products and made an obvious
difference in the appearance."

Barry Plant Office chooses easy-on to control graffiti vandals at new office

After an ongoing battle with random acts of vandalism, Ross Vorrias, Director, Barry Plant - Deer Park, made the decision to protect his new offices with easy-on anti-graffiti coating.

"The building was being continually graffitied by local vandals. Within weeks, the office was a disgrace with tags all over the walls." stated Ross.

After the offices were re-painted, the ECA team applied the easy-on coating on all exterior walls. Within a week the refreshly painted walls were again vandalised, however, this time all of the graffiti was simply wiped off as soon as it was discovered without leaving any ghosting .

The speed and ease by which the tags are being removed has now resulted in no grafitti in the past three months. Proving what is known, that by removing graffiti straight away, vandals give up because their tags are not being recognised.

Insultec applied to works operation centre

The City of Brimbank has recently completed a project with ECA to apply the Insultec heat re-radiating membrane to their works operations centre in Keilor Park Victoria.

Insultec was applied to a total area of 1200 m2 to help reduce the level of heat within the building during the summer months. The area's covered include maintenance rooms, work shop, garage and office space. The garage is responsible for the maintenance of council vehicles and traditionally an area where working temperatures can become extremely high. The application of Insultec has successfully reduced the area temperature by 16 degrees, effectively reducing cooling costs and providing a more comfortable working environment.
